UIN Palu Enhances Understanding of Moderate Islam Through Orientation Program

Palu (UINDK Palu PR) – UIN Datokarama Palu has initiated its Academic and Student Culture Orientation Program (PBAK) under the theme “Enhancing Understanding of Moderate Islam, Spirituality, and Local Wisdom to Embrace Progress.” The program has drawn the participation of 1,583 new students.

The PBAK, spanning four days, including a pre-PBAK day on August 21 and the main program from August 22 to 24, was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. H. Sagaf S. Pettalongi, M.Pd., the Rector of UIN Datokarama Palu, during an Open Senate Session held at the UIN Palu Auditorium on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

According to the committee’s data, the breakdown of new students participating in the PBAK by faculty includes 412 from the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Education Sciences (FTIK), 416 from the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Da’wah (FUAD), 219 from the Faculty of Sharia (FASYA), and 525 from the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI). Additionally, this PBAK included 11 returning students from previous cohorts.

In his address, Rector Prof. Sagaf S. Pettalongi stated that the PBAK serves as the initial step in acquainting new students with the university’s academic environment and learning experience. He emphasized that the transition from high school to university is marked by substantial differences in the educational experience. Consequently, these differences necessitate corresponding adjustments in the students themselves.

“While in high school, students often receive guidance from their teachers, in university, independence is key,” the Rector remarked.

Furthermore, the Rector explained that as today, the new students officially accepted in the university through an open senate meeting, they will also be formally bid farewell to during a similar open senate meeting when they graduate with their bachelor’s degrees. The distinction lies in the fact that while today, they wear red and white sashes, in a few years, depending on their academic journey, they will wear graduation caps. Both events, acceptance and farewell, will be conducted through senate ceremonies.

The Rector expressed his hope that the new students’ arrival, marked by joyful, enthusiastic, and optimistic faces, is received warmly by the senate members, chairpersons, and secretaries. He also expressed his aspiration that when these new students eventually depart UIN Palu, they do so with the same exuberance, joy, and contentment.

“We do not wish for the opposite, where you enter with happiness but leave with sadness. That sorrow upon your departure will be determined by each of you during your academic journey. Those who diligently study, maintain discipline, excel academically, and build good communication will graduate on time and experience the same happiness and delight,” the Rector concluded.
