Palu (UINDK Palu PR) – The Quality Assurance Institute (Lembaga Penjaminan Mutu or LPM) of the State Islamic University (UIN) Datokarama Palu organized a curriculum development workshop for the Informatics, Information Systems, and Architecture study programs. The workshop took place on Saturday and Sunday, July 29-30, 2023, in the Senate Meeting Room at UIN Datokarama Palu.
Distinguished speakers at the workshop included Dr. Ir. Zulkarnain AS, ST, MT, a lecturer and the Head of the Department of Architecture at UIN Alauddin Makassar, and Ir. Syaiful Hendra S. Kom, M. Kom, IPM, a lecturer at Tadulako University.
During his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. H. Sagaf S. Pettalongi, the Rector of UIN Datokarama Palu, stated that the Informatics program would initially be affiliated with the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Dakwah (FUAD), while the Information Systems and Architecture programs would temporarily be affiliated with the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI). “The process of proposing new faculties to the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (Kemenpan) is currently underway,” He stated.
The Rector emphasized the significance of this workshop for UIN Datokarama Palu, especially for the three newly established programs. The workshop served as a forum for discussions and focus group activities related to curriculum development, specifically regarding the content standards and course names. “Inputs on the relevance of these aspects to the three programs are essential and will be used to shape the curricula at the faculty and study program levels. Additionally, the outcomes of this workshop will be shared with Alauddin Makassar” He said.
Prof. Sagaf emphasized that UIN Datokarama Palu had certain distinguishing courses, known as “the University Characteristics,” that needed to be integrated into all programs, including the non-Islamic science study programs. While the number of credit hours for these courses would vary, what mattered most was the incorporation of these defining courses. “Among them, the course on “Moderate Islam” played a pivotal role in realizing the university’s vision”.
Furthermore, Prof. Sagaf highlighted that the curricula for the Informatics and Information Systems programs needed to consider global aspects, aligning with Indonesia’s National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) and the concept of “Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka” (Independent Campus Learning). “Universities should no longer focus solely on local and national levels but should also prepare students for global competitiveness, especially within the ASEAN region” asserted Sagaf.
The Rector expressed hope that the workshop would result in structured course content and syllabi that could be adjusted to local, national, and global levels, particularly within the ASEAN context. He praised UIN Alauddin as a leading institution among state Islamic universities (PTKIN) in Indonesia and emphasized the strategic partnership with Tadulako University, which has contributed to the development of Central Sulawesi and Indonesia as a whole.
